Happening at Chabad

Introducing the Chabad of White Marsh Monthly Newsletter

We are excited to introduce our new monthly email from Chabad of White Marsh.

Each month, we hope to share a short dose of Jewish inspiration, a meaningful story from Chabad around the world, updates from our local community, a recommended Jewish book, Shabbat candle-lighting times, and opportunities to help grow Jewish life right here in White Marsh.

Our goal is simple: to help our community stay connected — to Torah, to Jewish life, to each other, and to the warmth and meaning that Chabad of White Marsh is here to provide.

Inspiration
The Three Weeks

We are currently in The Three Weeks, the annual period of mourning that begins on the 17th of Tammuz and leads up to Tisha B’Av, when we remember the destruction of the Beis Hamikdash and reflect on the brokenness that still exists in our world.

“Darkness was placed in the world only to challenge light. As the light intensifies, the darkness thickens in defiance.”

That is the message of this time. We do not respond to darkness by retreating. We respond by adding more light — one more mitzvah, one more act of kindness, and one more moment of Jewish connection.

From Chabad Around the World
Where George Washington Drank Tea and Other Historic Chabad Houses

As America marks 250 years, Chabad.org recently shared a fascinating story about four historic buildings connected to the American Revolution that are now home to Chabad centers.

One of them is the Wyckoff-Bennett Homestead in Brooklyn, a Dutch Colonial farmhouse built around 1766. According to local legend, George Washington once passed through the property and stopped there for tea. Today, that same historic building is home to Chabad-Lubavitch of Flatbush, bringing Torah, mitzvos, prayer, community, and Jewish life into a place filled with American history.

It is a beautiful reminder that Jewish life does not only preserve the past. It transforms the present. Buildings that once carried the story of America’s founding are now helping build a vibrant Jewish future.

Book of the Month
Conversations With My Rabbi: Timeless Teachings for a Fractured World

This newly released book grew out of a series of conversations between Rabbi Eli Schlanger, a Chabad-Lubavitch representative in Bondi, Australia, and bestselling author Nikki Goldstein.

The book explores the Seven Noahide Laws — the universal moral principles emphasized by the Lubavitcher Rebbe — through thoughtful, personal conversations about faith, morality, purpose, and how timeless Torah values speak to modern life.

Rabbi Schlanger was tragically murdered in the Bondi terror attack while leading a public menorah lighting. This book helps carry forward his voice, his warmth, and his mission to bring light and moral clarity into the world.
